Budget Champagne Tasting Tour - What's Included

Introduced in January 2009 in response to the effects of the Credit Crunch, our budget tours have proved very popular. Whilst these tours don’t offer the incredible dining experiences, the fantastic personalities of the Champagne and wine makers and the very wide range of Champagnes and wines that we taste on our other tours, they do include the opportunity to visit both a family-run and a prestigious Champagne House together with a great Champagne tasting lunch or dinner. In addition, because this tour is simpler to arrange, we are able to offer them not just at weekends, but on several weekdays as well.

In general, we will work with a carefully selected local partner for some or all of the tour elements. This will usually mean that the parts of the tours that are transported may well have a central departure point (as opposed to our Premium tours where all guests are met at and returned to their hotels) and you will be walking between destinations rather than being transported. As we use local agents, we have limited control of the detail of these tours; for example the number of wines tasted at each Champagne House with our partner agencies will often be less than the extensive tastings / best wines that are included on all Premium tours.

These tours are for those on a tighter budget; however in common with all Grape Escapes tours, we don’t skimp on quality just because they are inexpensive.

The Budget Champagne Break in Reims includes:

• Two nights’ bed and breakfast in your chosen hotel in central Reims.
• A half day guided tour in the Montagne de Reims. This will include a look at several vineyards and a visit to a small, family run Champagne House for a tour and tastings of two Champagnes.
• A three course lunch (or dinner) in a restaurant on the main square in Reims where each course is accompanied by a glass of single varietal Champagne (one glass of Chardonnay, one glass of Pinot Noir and one glass of Pinot Meunier).
• A visit to one of the large, prestigious Champagne Houses in Reims for a tour of their cellars and a flute of their Champagne.
• Return Folkestone to Calais Eurotunnel crossing for a car and two passengers.

The Budget Champagne Break in Epernay includes:

• Two nights’ bed and breakfast in a choice of three hotels in central Epernay.
• A half day guided and transported tour in the vineyards. Your English speaking guide will take you to look at several vineyards and you may even have the chance to try your hand at pruning! The tour will conclude with a visit to a small, family-run Champagne House to learn about the fascinating Champagne-making process from grape to bottle and tastings of the Maison’s Champagnes.
• A three course lunch (or dinner) in a top restaurant in central Epernay where each course is accompanied by a glass of single varietal Champagne (one glass of Chardonnay, one glass of Pinot Noir and one glass of Pinot Meunier).
• A visit to the grandest of Champagne Houses- Moët and Chandon for a tour of their cellars and a flute of their Champagne.
• Return Folkestone to Calais Eurotunnel crossing for a car and two passengers.

Availability

These tours are available throughout the year and can generally be arranged for any guests who will be in Reims or Epernay for at least a day and a half; however the half day tour is not possible on Sundays or Wednesdays and the meal is not possible on Mondays or Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Epernay (i.e. for guests arriving in Reims on a Saturday or Tuesday, the half day tour would be on the afternoon of arrival or the morning of departure and for guests arriving on Sunday, the meal would be dinner on the evening of arrival or lunch on the day of departure as preferred).
