GRAPE ESCAPES - WINE TOUR HONEYMOON
If you have a passion for fine wine and dining, then why not enjoy a wine tour for your honeymoon?
We can organise either a short wine tour break as part of your bigger honeymoon, or indeed we can arrange a multi-region two week honeymoon for you if you prefer.
Short Honeymoon Wine Tour:
If you are planning your honeymoon and want a wine tour to start it off, then why not go for a romantic Champagne Celebration? You will enjoy a long weekend in the heart of the Champagne region, only 45 minutes by train from Paris. Two nights accommodation in a luxury chateau hotel with breakfast in bed, a candlelit dinner for two in a nice restaurant, plus a full day Champagne Tour in a luxury mini coach with tour guide visiting 3 Champagne Houses, plus a gourmet 4 course lunch. For more information, see our Champagne Tours page.
Longer Wine Tour Honeymoon:
We recently helped a young couple enjoy a 12 day honeymoon in France, visiting 3 wine regions during that time, including The Loire, Burgundy and Champagne.
Day One
- Drive down to the Loire, (including a Dover / Calais ferry crossing)
- Check into a 15th century Loire chateau hotel
Day Two
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Morning: Free time – we recommend a visit to Chateau Villandry on the bank of the Loire outside Tours, particularly famed for its fabulous renaissance style gardens
- Continue onwards to the medieval town of Chinon, then free time for lunch
- In the afternoon, you will visit two of the top red wine producers in The Loire for a tour of their vineyards and facilities, followed by a tasting of a variety of their excellent wines
- Accommodation in luxury room with whirlpool bath
Day Three
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Morning: Free time – we recommend a visit to the historic chateau of Chenonceau, where you will have time to explore this famous chateau spanning the river Cher
- Continue onwards to the medieval town of Amboise, then free time for lunch
- In the afternoon, a visit will be arranged to one of Vouvray’s top producers for a tour of their cellars and tastings of their range of wines which cover all expressions of Chenin Blanc, from dry to sweet
- Your afternoon is then free to explore the local region, and freshen up before dinner
- You will enjoy a sumptuous 5 course gala birthday dinner at your hotel, complete with aperitifs, wines, coffee and water
- Accommodation in luxury room with whirlpool bath
Day Four
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Leisurely drive across to Burgundy, and check into your hotel, an intimate hotel in the heart of a grand cru wine village
Day Five
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Morning: Free time – we recommend a visit to the ducal city of Dijon
- We have another great recommendation for lunch, in the red wine village of Morey St Dennis
- For the afternoon, we recommend a drive down the Route des Grand Crus from Dijon towards Beaune. You will pass through villages including Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Vosne Romanee & Nuits St Georges
- A visit will be arranged at one of the premium producers in one of these premium villages (usually Vougeot). This visit will start in the vineyards to understand the terroir of the wines that will be tasted, before visiting their cuverie (where the grapes are fermented and pressed) and cellars, finally tasting several of their world class wines
Day Six
- Free day to relax and enjoy the local scenery
Day Seven
- Breakfast at the hotel
- You will enjoy a leisurely walk through the famous village of Puligny Montrachet. As the guests of one of the big names in the village you will spend the second half of the morning touring their winery
- Lunchtime will offer the very special opportunity to sample fifteen of their wines from across the region over a 3 course, tasting lunch. The owners and staff are very gracious hosts and the wine tastings and meal usually prove both enjoyable and enlightening
- You have free time in the afternoon to wander around the village then head back to your hotel
Day Eight
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Morning: Free time – we recommend starting with a trip into Beaune to look around. You could choose to visit the much photographed Hotel Dieu / Hospice de Beaune in the centre of Beaune. In addition to its fabulous roof and interesting history, the Hospice has become one of the most important land owners in Burgundy with vineyards in many of the most prestigious cru’s and the annual auction of the hospice wines plays an important role in determining the price of the new vintage of Burgundy wines at release
- In the afternoon, a visit will be arranged to visit one of the famous negotiants in Beaune, where you will visit their ancient cellars before tasting 4 of their prestigious wines from across the region
- You have free time for the rest of the day
Day Nine
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Free morning
- Late morning taxi transfer to visit to a wine maker in the small village of Aloxe-Corton, the only village in Burgundy to boast both red and white grand cru wines
- You will see their vineyards and historic cellars, and end your visit to them with a 3 course lunch accompanied by 8 of their wines. This meal offers the unrivalled opportunity to taste 5 Burgundy grand crus in a single sitting and to understand if the uniquely French concept of terroir is real or mythical!
- Your taxi will then drop you back off at your hotel where you will have free time for the rest of the day
Day Ten
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Free time to drive up to Reims in the Champagne region, and check into your hotel, Les Crayeres, a chateau hotel that was originally built as the private residence for the Pommery family. Now boasts the finest restaurant in North East France
Day Eleven
- Breakfast at the hotel
- You will then be collected from your hotel in a luxury mini coach for our Prestige Champagne Tour
- Your tour will start off in one of the most prestigious, large and well known Champagne Houses, possibly Veuve Clicquot, to include a tour of their cellars, followed by a tasting of two of their Champagnes
- You will then be taken to a top local restaurant for a gourmet 4 course lunch to include accompanying Champagne and wines
- Your first visit of the afternoon will be down to the Cote des Blancs region, to one of the 17 Grand Cru villages to visit a smaller family run Champagne House. The owner, himself 7th generation in the winery, will take you for a tour of their facilities where you will get to taste some of their Blanc de Blanc Champagnes, and visit their award winning gardens. After this you will visit their romantic museum dedicated to the relationship between marriage and Champagne
- Your last visit of the day will be to a smaller family run producer in the Vallee of the Marne for a tour of their facilities before tasting 3 or 4 of their Champagnes
- You will then be taken back to your hotel where you will have free time for dinner – you could choose to eat in their famous 2 Michelin star restaurant, or head back into Reims to eat at one of the many bars, restaurants or brasseries on the main square
Day Twelve
- Breakfast at the hotel
- You will then have free time to explore the city for the morning before heading back to Calais for the return ferry crossing to Dover. The drive from Reims to Calais is about 2 ½ hours
