CHAMPAGNE VALENTINES CHATEAU BREAK
Valentines Champagne Tasting Tour - What's Included
For the ultimate romantic getaway, enjoy a relaxing, bubbly break at the Château de Rilly...
The Two night Valentine’s Château Break
Monday 13th February 2012
- Drive from the UK to Rilly-la-Montagne, taking the Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais.
- Upon arrival, check into a double room at the Château de Rilly.
- The remainder of the day and evening will be free for you to do as you please. You may wish to explore the Château’s parkland or relax in the Jacuzzi.
- In your travel pack will be a comprehensive list of nearby Grape Escapes recommended restaurants. We would be delighted to reserve you a table for dinner at any of these.
Tuesday 14th February 2012
- After breakfast at the Château, take a short drive and start the day in style at the largest and grandest Champagne house, Moët and Chandon, where you will have a private Dom Perignon tour. You will be visiting some of the oldest areas of the cellars which are seldom visited by the public. This will include the private reserves of members of royal families from around the world. A tasting of Dom Perignon will conclude the visit in a private reception room at the Moët mansion.
- Please see your travel pack if you would like to have lunch in Epernay. We would be pleased to reserve you a table if required.
- In the afternoon, you will be welcomed as the guests of a small, boutique producer of Premier Cru Champagnes in the village. As well as having a tour of the property, you will learn the Napoleonic art of Sabrage (the art of opening the Champagne bottle with a sword). Since you will both open a bottle, you will then need to drink at least some of the Champagnes that have been opened.
- After walking back to the Château and freshening up, you may wish to take the aperitif in the cosy lounge bar before wandering across to the restaurant to enjoy a gourmet seven course dinner with a flute of rosé Champagne matched to each dish.
Friday 15th February 2012
- After a leisurely breakfast, check out of the Château and drive back to the UK, taking the Eurotunnel from Calais to Folkestone.
Accommodation
Located in a quaint, Premier Cru Champagne-making village, the 4* Château de Rilly’s rural location is best suited to those who have access to a car whilst visiting the region. For complete safety, cars can be parked overnight within the Château’s gated grounds. In this calm and tranquil setting, guests can explore neighbouring villages and estates and enjoy a relaxing stay in the region. The Château is equidistance between Reims and Epernay and the drive to either of these places would take around 20 minutes.
A brand new spa, complete with a sauna and hammam room is available to the Château’s guests and to recharge your batteries after a hard day’s tasting, the Jacuzzi is at your disposal throughout the day and evening. For those who would prefer to partake in some further tastings, the Château’s cosy bar serves an extensive selection of premium Champagnes by the bottle or by the glass.
One of the Château’s greatest features is its gourmet restaurant, whose Chef was recently presented with the Jeune Restaurateur d’Europe award. Here, you will enjoy fine cuisine in an elegant and convivial setting.
The Château’s fifteen bedrooms are each named after a prestigious Champagne House and are individually styled and decorated in a modern and refined fashion. Each room is fully equipped with an en-suite bathroom, a flat screen TV on a rotating stand, WIFI Internet access and a safety deposit box and many rooms offer beautiful views of the village or of the Château’s pretty grounds. Superior rooms are available as well as Standard rooms and these are more spacious with large terraces.
